Earlier this year we committed to running the Pirate Unicorn Marathon 2.0 after the encouraging words of Matthew Scoletti. Unfortunately later this summer we found were lacking one important ingredient... motivation to run.
We struggled to come up with an alternate as our training time dwindled. Our compromise? The Pirate Unicorn Ten Miler (or PUTM)! We also decided to making PUTM a fundraiser for Central Penn College's Raise The Roof campaign to combat homelessness and housing insecurity. We set a goal to collect $10 and ten items (shampoo, deodorant, etc.) for each of the ten miles we would run.
This past weekend we arrived at Wildwood Lake, and just as we were getting started, we had a surprise visit from Derek (yes, the #noexcuses/our favorite trainer and mentor Derek)! Nothing is random, and we can't even express how awesome it was to see him at the starting line!
PUTM and our mission to Raise The Roof falls right in line with our latest episode of the Pirate Life Podcast where we discuss the fourth pirate intention... SHARE YOUR BOOTY. Basically this intention is about finding ways to give back (which includes everything from major fundraising initiatives to holding a door for someone). In the episode we talk about some of our favorite fundraising adventures and why "sharing your booty" is such an important part of living the pirate life.
