Pirate Intention 2: Find Joy In Random Places

Want to live the Pirate Life? We've developed ten intentions to help us to embrace our inner pirate and live our best lives. In episode 54 we talk about the 2nd intention...

FINDING JOY IN RANDOM PLACES!

As pirates, we've been able to find joy and (lots of) laughter just sitting together in our driveway, in the airport, or in the McDonald's bathroom. We've even found it in places that aren't as hospitable - like the hospital.

Embracing this intention adds laughter, happiness, and gratitude to our lives. It's not always easy - but it's definitely worth it!

Here are a few tips to finding joy from Prevention.com
  • Set a goal outside your comfort zone
  • Be present
  • Choose authenticity
  • Volunteer
  • Reconnect with nature
  • Make opportunities for laughter
  • Seek out positive people

Motivation

It's been two years since the original Pirate Unicorn Marathon (a 26.2 mile adventure of our own creation)! In 2019 we ran throughout Central PA visiting some of our fave locations connected to our friendship and our fitness journeys. This spring we enthusiastically committed to a second run... PUM2. But early into training a pernicious problem crept in...

LACK OF MOTIVATION

In episode 53 of The Pirate Life Podcast, we share our woes and brainstorm ways to build back our excitement for running.

Here are a few tips we found from Dean Bokhari

  1. Gain clarity by setting some goals.
  2. Create some “power moves” to jolt body into a motivated state.
  3. Reframe your beliefs as those of someone who’s highly motivated.
  4. 10x your goals. 10x your actions.
  5. Find your WHY.
  6. Break big things into smaller, actionable steps. Chunk. it. down!
  7. Be as specific as possible about what you want to do.
  8. Sustain your motivation by tapping into the power of habit.

Pirate Intention 1: Seek Adventure

Hello Mateys!

In Episode 52, we breakdown the first of the ten Pirate Intentions... SEEK ADVENTURE.

Definition of ADVENTURE (noun)

  1. an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity.

  2. engage in hazardous and exciting activity, especially the exploration of unknown territory.

Although we aren't so sure about the word "hazardous," we definitely believe in the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones and exploring "unknown territory."

In Episode 52, we break out the benefits of living this intention and share some of our favorite adventures together. We also discuss some of the challenges we've faced and offer a few resources, too!

Here are some of our fave adventures:

Frientimacy

"There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship." Thomas Aquinas
"In the cookie of life friends are the chocolate chips." Unknown

Frientimacy Book Cover
In her book, "Frientimacy," friendship expert Shasta Nelson shares what it takes to build more meaningful friendships. She says:

FRIENTIMACY IS MORE THAN JUST A CALL FOR DEEPER CONNECTION BETWEEN FRIENDS; IT’S A BLUEPRINT FOR TURNING SIMPLE FRIENDSHIPS INTO TRUE BONDS—AND FOR THE MEANINGFUL AND SATISFYING RELATIONSHIPS THAT COME WITH THEM.

Shasta outlines three requirements to deepen our friendships: Consistency, Positivity, and Vulnerability. In episode 49, we take Shasta's quiz to see where we rank. Did we score the same? Where can we improve the most?

Listen now and get tips for developing "frientimacy" in your own relationships!
