Talk Like A Pirate Day

September 19 is TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

The holiday was created in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers (aka Ol' Chumbucket and Cap'n Slappy). When an injury during a racquetball game let to a impromptu "Aaaarrr," Talk Like A Pirate Day was born!

In recognition of Talk Like A Pirate Day, we use episode 79 to celebrate all things PIRATE...
  • We learn our pirate names
  • Test our pirate trivia,
  • Share the top 15 pirate movies,
  • and even see which of us can use the most pirate lingo during the episode (can you guess who the winner was?!)!

Ready to work on your vocab? Here are a few of our favorite pirate words
  • Booty - Refers to any ill-gotten goods.
  • Briny deep - the ocean.
  • Bunghole - The opening in a cask of beer or rum that is plugged with a cork or stopper.
  • Grog - Technically, it's diluted rum, although you can use the word to refer to just about any alcoholic concoction.
  • Jolly Roger - Pirate flag featuring a skull and crossbones.
  • Landlubber - a person unfamiliar with the sea or sailing.
  • Matey - A good friend.
  • No quarter! - We won't accept surrender!
  • Poop deck - Top deck on a large ship.
  • Salt (or Old Salt) - An experienced sailor.
  • Shiver me timbers! - expresses shock, surprise or annoyance.
  • Yo ho ho! - Pirate interjection expressing great joy.

    What's the 1st Phorm App?

Denise pulled us into something new!

After seeing a friend killing her weight loss goals (shoutout to Laura!), Denise had to learn her secret. What was it?? Definitely not some "miracle meltaway." Laura was using the 1st Phorm Health/Fitness app

1st Phorm was founded by brothers Sal and Andy Frisella (remember #75HARD?? Andy created it!)! The app tracks macronutrients or "macros" (protein, carbs, and fat), exercise/steps per day, water intake, and more. It's also a direct line of communication between you and a 1st Phorm coach - who provides information, motivation, and encouragement along the way.

Denise was the first to sign up under Coach Kristie and quickly shared the app with her mateys. A little over two months in, we wanted to share our experience! Listen to episode 78 to learn more.

Want to try it out? Look for 1st Phorm in the app store or CLICK HERE. You can join us on Team Hustle and Heart when you select Kristie Mozisek as your advisor!

    What we've learned so far:

    • Tracking macros isn't as hard as we thought!
    • None of use are eating enough protein!
    • Steak and shrimp are delicious (and great sources of protein)!

    Our feedback:

    • The app offers accountability. Between the motivating checkmarks, weekly weigh-ins, and our awesome coach, there are lots of ways to hold us accountable!
    • The app also is a great way to learn about nutrition. We are learning the macros in our favorite foods, exploring new sources of protein, and testing a whole new way of eating.
    • Heads up to Android users... There could be a few tech issues in the beginning. Hang in there and reach out to your coach for help to get up and running!

Book Review: The Power of One More

The Pirates have been loyal fans of ED MYLETT for many years. He continues to motivate and inspire us, and we continue to dream of meeting him in person (and riding on his jet)! (Check out one of our first convos about Ed, in EPISODE 14).

Ed recently released a PODCAST where he was interviewed by JAMIE KERN LIMA, founder of IT cosmetics. The interview dug into Ed's new book... THE POWER OF ONE MOREWe loved the episode and knew we had to read the book! In EPISODE 77, we share our thoughts!

Things we loved about the book...
    • The idea of "One More" - A simple concept, but massively impactful! Do one more rep at the gym, make one more call at work, give one more compliment to someone you care about! "One more" makes all the difference!
    • Each chapter can be read individually - so you can choose to read it from start to finish, or go straight to the chapter that speaks to you most.
    • Ed reads the Audible version - Although we all bought the hardcover (we need something for Ed to autograph when we meet him), it was a gift to be able to hear Ed's narration on the Audible version!
    Top pirate takeaways...
    • Some things are caught not taught.
    • Some goals are like piƱatas. Keep trying to crack them open.
    • Your brain is trained to find more of what you focus on.
    • Negative thoughts? Visualize yourself crossing it out in your mind (or using a magic eraser).
Wondering how to implement the power of one more in  your own life? Try these "One more" questions...
    • Is there one more thing I can do to make my family feel more special?
    • Is there one more thing I can do to show my appreciation to the people that I work with?
    • Is there one more way I can adjust my thinking so I make fewer excuses?
    • What's one more way I can worry less about what other people think?
    • What's one more way I can practice gratitude?
    • In my work, is there one more way I can become an effective leader?
(These are just a sample - there are pages of questions in THE POWER OF ONE MORE!)
