The Me Journal

In Episode 61, Shawna shared The Me Journal. Although we (Denise and Adrienne) were initially nervous about what was in store, we all had a blast with the fun prompts from the book!

About The Me Journal

With plenty of fun prompts, The Me Journal encourages you to write your unique stories, thoughts, opinions, hopes, and dreams. The revealing categories include "Your Lists," "This or That," "Your Most Favorite," "At Random" (everything from where you'd go as a time traveler to the greatest kiss of your life), "What Are Your Thoughts On..." and more.

The High Five Habit Review

Why are the pirates high fiving themselves every morning in the mirror?

Recently our hero Ed Mylett invited Mel Robbins onto his podcast to talk about the benefits of a daily high five to yourself! It's all based on Mel's newest book, The High 5 Habit

Why a high five:
  • Not performance based. It just celebrates you!
  • Lots of positive connotations already built in.
  • Always associated with a good mood.

We tested it out for the first time LIVE in the podcast studio during episode 59.

We also talked about the magical way one experience can initiate a domino effect and take you somewhere completely unexpected. Mel Robbins calls this "connecting the dots."

At the end of episode 59, we invite YOU to join us in the High 5 Challenge

Have you taken the high five challenge? Let us know in the comments!

The Last 90 Days

How will you spend the last 90 days of 2021?

With 90 days to go, it's easy to say, "I'll start again in the new year." But it could also be your opportunity to recommit to your goals and end the year with a bang!

In episode 58, we assess our progress for the year and decide where we can up our game (and not just in shuffleboard)!

Through our conversation, we uncover that our goals have changed (a lot) throughout the course of 2021. Our words for the year are still a work in progress: Attentive, Confidence, Content and Shine. Our annual goals are all over the place: Denise is taking next steps with her photog business, Adrienne has swapped books and meditation for Duolingo, and Shawna is working to reconnect with a childhood friend.

During this episode, we also take inventory of our life list for the year.  It doesn't look good, but we aren't giving up! Dates have finally been set for Diggerland! Although we won't be able to complete the list in full, we are determined to have an epic last 90 days of 2021! Will you join us?

#planc

“Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.”

Early in our friendship, we knew we shared a common desire to live our lives to the fullest. We have a tendency to pull each other into endless adventures as we uncover new interests and goals - everything from laughter yoga to pole dancing to marathons (and sooo much more).

One goal we've consistently shared has been travel - especially to the places we have always dreamed about visiting. In 2017 we made it to Shawna's dream destination... Jamaica! Since that time we've been planning another big trip to Denise's dream destination... Australia(Adrienne's dream destination is Italy).

Unfortunately the pandemic put a hard stop to our plans to head down under when the borders closed to international travelers. But pirates are tough to be deterred. We jumped right into Plan B. We came up with alternatives and our Pirate Life mateys (that's you!) voted on their favorites. Our new destination? Nantucket!!

And then Tropical Storm Henri showed up. When the path of the storm coincided with our route to Nantucket, we knew we had to pivot yet again. Time for #planc (aka... Plan C. You'll hear more about that on the podcast). We ended up connecting with great friends who rented us their apartment right on Seneca Lake, part of the Finger Lakes region of New York.

We spent a beautiful week visiting wineries, hiking to awe-inspiring waterfalls, hopping fences, feeding goats, and enjoying the Finger Lakes! Check out our newest episode to hear about our adventures!

Australia will happen eventually, but until then, we are thankful for the fun and laughter we can share at any destination!

Pirate Intention 4: Share Your Booty

Earlier this year we committed to running the Pirate Unicorn Marathon 2.0 after the encouraging words of Matthew Scoletti. Unfortunately later this summer we found were lacking one important ingredient... motivation to run.

We struggled to come up with an alternate as our training time dwindled. Our compromise? The Pirate Unicorn Ten Miler (or PUTM)! We also decided to making PUTM a fundraiser for Central Penn College's Raise The Roof campaign to combat homelessness and housing insecurity. We set a goal to collect $10 and ten items (shampoo, deodorant, etc.) for each of the ten miles we would run.

This past weekend we arrived at Wildwood Lake, and just as we were getting started, we had a surprise visit from Derek (yes, the #noexcuses/our favorite trainer and mentor Derek)! Nothing is random, and we can't even express how awesome it was to see him at the starting line!

PUTM and our mission to Raise The Roof falls right in line with our latest episode of the Pirate Life Podcast where we discuss the fourth pirate intention... SHARE YOUR BOOTY. Basically this intention is about finding ways to give back (which includes everything from major fundraising initiatives to holding  a door for someone). In the episode we talk about some of our favorite fundraising adventures and why "sharing your booty" is such an important part of living the pirate life.

Pirate Intention 3: Shipmates Always Welcome

We are working our way through our TEN INTENTIONS of the Pirate Life! In episode 55, we talk about Intention 3:

SHIPMATES ALWAYS WELCOME.

With this intention we strive to say, "COME ON IN" and welcome others to share in our adventures. FYI... This intention is the one we credit with kicking off what we now call the Pirate Life!

Whether it's forming the Halifax Run Club or becoming honorary members of the Entertainment Team at our resort in Jamaica, we always want to connect with others and include them in the fun!

Although this intention sometimes challenges us to be vulnerable, it ups the fun factor exponentially. It helps to push us to achieve new goals with the support of those around us, learn new things, and make a difference in the lives of others! As Denise would say, shipmates help to "push us out on the plank!"

Tips for this intention:
